In our 4th instalment looking at some of the stranger jobs out there and demonstrating that when it comes to careers any thing’s possible, we look into the career paths of Pet Detectives. Yes, it is a real job! A Pet Detective is a well paid job and no we are not talking about the movie “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”, but an actual pet detective. This movie does, in a weird and funny way, show what being a pet detective involves although I think the name “pet detective” itself pretty much tells you what the job’s about. A pet detective is someone who tracks down lost pets mostly for people who are not capable to look for themselves.
Vicky Vaughan says:“Working with the pet owner, we use time- proven law enforcement CSI techniques, search probability theory, high-tech equipment, humane traps, deductive reasoning, search and rescue techniques and our highly skilled K-9′s to give your pet the best possible chance of recovery.” “When a pet goes missing, the despair faced by their owners is heart-wrenching, and we are here to help” thus certified private pet detective Vicky Vaughan.
Vicky has studied lost pet behaviour for years and has lots of experience in finding pets and returning them to their distressed owners. For people who lost their pet it is wise to not sit and wait till the pet detective got active because pets behaviour can change fast in different circumstances. Besides that it is not guaranteed that the pet detective will find your pet although the chance is big of course.
To become a pet detective you need to:
- Know pet behaviour in different circumstances
- Possess an official Pet Detective Certificate
- Be a pet lover
- Be a people lover
- Know and understand human behaviour
- Be patient and flexible
- Learn a lot by doing
