Why Choose Apprenticeships? Australia Needs YOU!

Apprenticeships will prepare you for the industry you wish to start your career in, as well as giving you knowledge in combination with some hands-on practical experience. However, it’s also important for you to understand which industries will be booming in the futureso you can make the right choice and ensure there are some good job prospects for you once you’ve completed your apprenticeship. One thing is for sure, if you’ve chosen to do an apprenticeship you’re more than likely to be needed in the future. This means there’ll be good job prospects, loads of jobs to choose from and many paths you can take to develop your career.

You’ve probably heard a lot about the government investing in developing a skilled workforce in Australia. Mark Arbib, Minister For Employment Participation said that government’s improvements to training packages will help with the growth of a skilled workforce to eventually meet future needs. Mark also stressed the importance of businesses taking on more apprentices and trainees.

Despite of the challenging global economic conditions minister, Arbib, is convinced that Australia has enough skilled workers who can meet demand and grow. “The best way to combat skill shortages in the future is to boost training now,” said Mr Arbib.

Today, there are industry training packages and government incentives available to give support to employers who will take on apprentices and trainees.

President of the Business Higher Education Round Rable, Peter Tyree has called on different top industry groups to create a national intern scheme for TAFE and university students as part of a solution to the skills shortage. He advised that “for people doing accounting, engineering, nursing, it would be better for them to be working in career-path organisations.” Furhermore, he commented that “In the electricity industry, for example, our systems have idiosyncrasies which make them different to those in Europe and India,” and that “universities need to know how to better approach business.”
