If you hear the title “Crocodile Wrangler”, you probably think well it can’t be as tough as it seems? Well wake up, because it is actually very dangerous! Crocodile wranglers have got to be the craziest people around because hunting a reptile that weighs over a tonne and is dangerous as hell takes guts.
The title “Crocodile Wrangler” is not a real qualification, the real name for this job is a herpetologist. A herpetologist mostly studies amphibians and reptiles. That doesn’t take away the fact that they frequently do wrangle with crocodiles!
The reasons that crocodile wranglers exist is to capture crocodiles for research and their own protection. Crocodiles are threatened by poachers and we don’t want them to end up in zoos instead of their natural environment. Authorities will call a crocodile specialist to capture the crocodile and ensure that it is either destroyed or taken. It takes a team of wranglers to catch a crocodile because it is unpredictable and dangerous and will often attack when you least expect it.
The group of wranglers needs to lure the crocodile onto land before trying to catch it. After that, the team jumps onto the massive beast and pin it down. They have to then wrap rope or tape around its snout to prevent it from biting. This procedure can take hours when dealing with real big crocodiles.
Well if you are looking for more adventure in your job this might be interesting for you. So pack your stuff and go live in the jungle for a few years to gain some experience. After that, if you are still alive, you might be suitable as a crocodile wrangler. The most famous and admirable wrangler was Steve Irwin, also known as “Crocodile Hunter”.
