Trade Training in ADF

Trade Training within the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will provide you with the skills you need not only for the next few years, but throughout your life. Not only will you receive the training you need, but also have a guaranteed job after you finish.

After you are qualified, you will work in the ADF for four years. You can also choose to go into the Navy, Army, or Air Force. Some of the trade positions include Electrician, Aircraft Technician, Carpenter, Motor Mechanic, and Metal smith. No matter which trade you go into you will go into basic recruit training where you will learn defence, weapon operation, and teamwork skills, lasting around 10 weeks.

Salaries and benefits are high in the ADF. During recruit training, you will make $30,709 per year. Once you begin your trade training and complete twelve months, you will make $39,483 per year. Once qualified in your trade, you will make over $65,000 a year, which is high above the national average for trades people. In addition, you will receive full dental and medical cover.

In order to enter the ADF Trade Training program, you must fulfil a few requirements. First, you must be between the age of 17 and 53 and an Australian Citizen. You will also have to pass a security clearance which includes a background check.

As for education requirements, you will have to take an aptitude test which includes verbal and numerical capability and must have a Level 10 certificate. In addition, most trades require a Certificate III within your discipline in order to continue your training with the ADF.
