So what sort of jobs does this industry entail? Hospitality covers everything from restaurants, hotels, tourism, retail, and personal services.
It’s best for students and recent graduates who are looking for a career in the hospitality industry to work as an apprentice to gain valuable skills and experience. Apprenticeship in Australia are like internships, except it usually includes a wage. The title of an apprenticeship covers paid work along with on the job training. Typically, apprenticeships last 36-48 months and sometimes there are job openings in that field after the apprenticeship is complete.

Employers are governed by the National training Wage Award System. How much you earn as an apprentice varies depending on the amount of experience you have. To see how much you can earn as a trainee, call the Australian Workplace Authority, or go to The Fair Work Website.

Another way to help people decide on what sort of field to get into, go online and check out some podcasts that chat to people entering the workforce about how they felt entering their apprenticeship.
