Become a Roof Plumbing Apprentice

Mar 7, in Hints & Tips

Roof plumbers are a highly specialised group of plumbers with a very specific skill set. Roof plumbers generally maintain existing roof structures and equipment or add improvements such as correctly fitted rainwater tanks, pumps, new flashing or roof battens, safety mesh, and insulation.

The types of work roof plumbers are responsible for include:

  • Putting in fixtures like downpipes, roof mesh, guttering, roof safety systems and walkways, downpipes, and rainwater tanks
  • Utilising supplies like fibreglass, metal, glass, malthoid sheets and polycarbonate to cover up and shield roof structures
  • Linking the rain and storm water drainages to street drains and sewerage systems
  • Making sure that any roof penetrations are flashed to avoid potential leaking

If you were interested in becoming a roof plumbing apprentice, what do you have to look forward to?  Starting out in your roof plumbing apprenticeship, you would be responsible for setting up and maintaining roof structures while following all required safety procedures. During your roof plumbing course at TAFE you will be trained in the following:

Roof plumbing apprenticeship wages depend on what year roof plumbing apprentice you are.  At time of writing this post the first year roof plumbing apprenticeship wages starts at almost $300 per week which increases to over $525 per week upon the fourth year. A roof plumbing apprenticeship is a great way to kick start a career that is highly specialised and skilled. The future for a roof plumbing apprentice is bright as more and more Australians are trying to lead “greener” lives and subsequently installing rain water tanks and reusing their water.
