Progressing from a Cook or Apprentice Chef to a Chef

It is important to note that it takes a lot of hard work to be able to be involved in a successful restaurant. However, you need to know that with determination there is every possibility of progressing from a cook to an apprentice chef and better still to a chef.

Here are some tips to help you achieve such progress;

  1. Begin by getting experience while working in the food industry. Remember it doesn’t really matter where you start off because you may start off as an assistant cook, a cook or an apprentice cook but still work your way up to become a very successful chef. If you have the passion and go out of your way to learn, you should be able to gain valuable experience.
  2. If you start off as a cook, keep checking the local papers for apprentice cook positions. Be sure to apply for these positions when you see them because given that you will be paid, you should be able to upgrade your skills by taking additional courses.
  3. While working as a cook, make contacts by talking to people in the industry. By doing this you will be informed any time there is an opportunity for an apprentice chef. You will therefore be able to progress from being a cook to an apprentice chef when the opportunity arises.
  4. Apart from the skills that you have, you must remember that a positive attitude will also play a key role as you seek to progress from being a cook to an apprentice chef. If you have the drive to become a chef then nothing will stop you from getting there irrespective of the obstacles that may come your way.
  5. Be sure to remain focused because there are many distractions that will come your way. You need dedication if you are to progress from being a cook to an apprentice cook.

The truth is that many people start off as cooks and due to the personal drive that they have, they rise to become apprentice cooks and even to become qualified chefs.

However, it calls for great passion, determination and focus to be able to do this. Although there are times you may feel discouraged as an apprentice chef, you should be able to pick yourself up and move on. Many have overcome the challenges and have become successful chefs and you too can achieve the same.
