If you are interested in building a career in mechanical engineering, there are various courses that you can take up. Some of the Mechanical engineering TAFE courses that you can choose to study include:

1. Engineering – Mechanical Trade

This course is appropriate for people that are employed as apprentice mechanical fitters or those working as machinists in the engineering, manufacturing or other related industry areas. With this course you will gain the competencies that are necessary for you to successfully work as a tradesperson in any of these areas. Some of the skills you will acquire include knowledge on occupational health, workplace communication, quality procedures, engineering measurement, systems and planning, computations and computer technology as well as industry -specific skills in machining and mechanical fitting that are relevant to the area that you work in. Once you complete this mechanical engineering TAFE course, you can work as a mechanical tradesperson.

2. Engineering – Technical (Mechanical)

This is one of the mechanical engineering courses that will train you in the skills and resources that you need to be able to work as a technician alongside other qualified mechanical engineers in the engineering and metal industry. With this course, there are various elective competencies that you can choose from such as drafting, computer aided design (CAD), energy production as well as mechanical principles.

3. Engineering – Technical –Certificate III (NRT)

This is yet another of the mechanical engineering TAFE courses that you will find appropriate if you are entering the metal and engineering industry in any of the technical (non-trade) occupations like production scheduler, CAD drafter or engineering assistant. The course will enable you to gain competencies in interacting with computer technology as well as in organising and analysing information. It will also help you to gain other elective competencies in areas that are relevant to the work that you do. This could range from quality assurance, drafting, CAD, basic fluid power, production scheduling, basic mechanical design, cost estimating as well as basic- non-destructive testing.

There are various other mechanical engineering TAFE courses that you can choose from depending on the area that would like to specialise in. However, carry out some research before taking up any of these courses just to be sure that you don’t end up with a course that you are not interested in.
