MasterChef Apprentices Reach Final Week

Jul 20, in Hints & Tips

It’s finals week in the MasterChef kitchen and there’s sure to be surprises. Throughout Season 2, there have been laughs, sweat, and tears by all the apprentice chefs, but they haven’t seen anything yet. They have learned by doing and through attending MasterClass but now, it’s all up to them. Narrowing them down with elimination each night, there will be only two remaining to battle it out for the prized name of Season 2 MasterChef.

Last night, Alvin was the first to be eliminated during finals week with a failed version of Adriano Zumbo’s V8 cake. Though, it is important to note, that all of the contestants failed to produce a cake that looked even similar to the original. With four hours in the kitchen, the final products looked rather disappointing. They left too little time to pull the entire cake together and while taste is the most important factor, the look of a cake, especially by Adriano Zumbo is quite crucial.

So now there are 5 contestants to go. Who do you think will be Australia’s next MasterChef? While each contestant can hold their own in the kitchen, I think we all have our favourites and least favourites for that matter.

Callum: At the age of 20, Callum should be proud of how far he has come in the MasterChef competition. Originally pursuing an engineering career, Callum now wants to be a pastry chef. With very little experience both in life and in the kitchen, Callum tends to falter but has managed to get by and land a spot in finals week. Do you think he can up his game and be the next MasterChef?

Jimmy: Originally a food ingredient engineer, Jimmy strives to open a restaurant that features a part of his youth, Indian cuisine. Born in India, he has always known a lot about spices and is known to create a great curry on the show. Jimmy was brought back to the show and won a second chance at becoming the MasterChef. Last night, he amazed the judges by cooking outside of his element, producing the best V8 cake. Is this enough to earn redemption, or will Jimmy be the next to go?

Courtney: Courtney has been amazing the judges with her seafood dishes since her return to the MasterChef kitchen. Whether its fresh prawns or chilli crab legs, she has had quite the comeback, winning challenges over contestants who never left the MasterChef kitchen. Working in a bowling club for the past 12 years, Courtney needed a change. Could this be the opportunity she was looking for?

Claire: She’s always had a dream to have her own cafe and winery, but as a hardworking lawyer, there would never be the time. On the show, you can see the qualities she learned as a lawyer through her meticulous work and attention to detail. A favourite of the judges all season, Claire has won numerous challenges and has recently competed against Celebrity chefs for her efforts well done. Claire is a popular choice for the win due to the talents she has shown all season.

Adam: Adam may be the most inventive contestant on MasterChef. Though he claims his cooking style to be Asian, he has no problem cooking outside of that spectrum and creating innovative dishes, like his recent scotch egg in the shell fish challenge on Sunday. Originally a lawyer, he learned his food interest through work and family travels. Adam is a top contender for winning MasterChef, but every chef can have a bad day in the kitchen. Will he make it through finals week?

So now the real question is, can the contestants hold it together for one more week? Who will go home tonight? Who will surprise us with fantastic dishes and who’s will we cringe at when we see them on the judge’s table? Only time will tell and we better keep watching!
