Sep 1, in Hints & Tips

Women are becoming more increasingly involved and recognised for their achievements with leadership and encouragement of fellow females in the workplace. Just recently a female leader in the working world received two awards for her accomplishments and supportive leadership.

Sunshine Coast builder Sam Sheppard, the woman behind the ‘Women into Building Housing Showcase’ was presented last week with a special award for outstanding achievement by a woman in a mentoring role. The award was given as a part of the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s 2010 Women in Development Excellence Awards.

Sam was the only nominee to leave with two awards, one for her personal achievements which was actually an extra award provided because of her special efforts, and the other on behalf of the Buildmore Group, which she is in charge of.

The Buildmore Group was announced winner of the Workplace Award which recognises the outstanding performance of a workplace in supporting and encouraging female staff through the development of company culture and policies.

UDIA Queensland President Warren Harris remarked on the award, “The impact of this project is extensive, providing opportunities for students in schools, TAFEs and colleges, designers, trades people, suppliers and industry partners,”

By becoming an apprentice or tradesman, like Sam, you can take the opportunity to extend your abilities and prove your leadership skills by helping to reach future trainees in the same position.
