As you likely know, getting an apprenticeship in the field where you are hoping to work is one of the best and most effective ways of getting trained while working.  Apprenticeship programs have existed for a thousand years now—dating back to the Middle Ages in Europe where a master craftsman would select an apprentice and train them up for work in the same field.  After a number of years of study and hands-on experience, the apprentice might be seen as fit for entering the field as a journeyman or even then as a master craftsman themselves.  The same process exists today, in slightly different form.

What Is A Pre Apprenticeship?

A pre-apprenticeship is simply a gateway for training that can prepare one for the apprenticeship itself.  Employers generally respect and favor those for future positions, who are in their apprenticeship programs, the apprentice programs will also tend to favor those who have had training even in a pre-apprenticeship program. At these kinds of programs, students learn needed skills that will carry through to their work at the apprenticeship, and ultimately also in their career position that the apprenticeship was based upon.

An apprenticeship program, or a pre apprenticeship program is instrumental for so many students these days wanting to enter their career field but wanting to get a leg-up on the competition by learning additional skill sets that are directly related to their chosen field.  This is the primary aspiration for preapprenticeship training programs because they will effectively equip their students for future successes in their destined careers.

The advantages of joining pre apprenticeship training are numerous, but mainly will assist the trainee in landing a great apprentice position in the future.  This is probably the most tangible of the reasons and the main aim for most entering into such a program.  Alternatively, skill development is at the top of the list of reasons that someone might come to join a pre apprenticeship training program.  Basic skills like phone handling and data processing and computer technology are often emphasized.  Another aspiration for students of a pre apprenticeship training is that they might find referrals to employers in their chosen field.  There are often employers who watch the pre apprenticeship training programs very carefully in hopes of finding an excellent candidate for their apprentice training courses.

Private sector companies are not the only ones who offer such apprenticeship training.  The NSW government offers pre apprenticeship courses as well to help their future employees prepare for the training and the rigors that lie ahead.  The government training courses will tend to offer a greater amount of supplemental benefits and potentially even greater job security than those companies in the private sector.  This is a good advantage that draws many towards the government work and the NSW government pre apprenticeship training courses. These courses, just like those for the private sector, are effective for equipping students for success in a future apprenticeship program or even possibly for entering directly into the work force after graduation.
