From Apprentice to Famous: Michael Caine

Jun 9, in Hints & Tips

Long before Michael Caine became Harry Brown, this winter’s ex-serviceman vigilante, dishing out hardcore revenge for the murder of his best friend, Michael Caine spent some time working as a plumber. Having left school at 16, Caine worked at a number of jobs until he was called to serve his country.  Enlisted in the National Service with the Roval Fusiliers, Caine’s service took him all the way to Korea.  After serving the British army, Caine returned home and took time to explore his dreams.

Working various manual jobs in during the day, Caine did back breaking labour to support his dreams of being an actor and pay for acting lessons, which he attended in the evening.  In order to make a more stable living, Caine sought out a plumbers apprenticeship, and worked as a plumbers assistant for a couple of years before finally landing an acting gig in the  film, A Hill in Korea.

Determined to succeed as an actor, Caine continued to work hard, and was able to land a number of movie parts. After finally breaking out into the acting world, the rest, as they say, is history.  Caine went on to star in a number of famous movies such as the Italian Job, The Man Who Would be King, Hannah and Her Sisters, and more recently, in the incredibly popular Batman movies. While Caine was able to realise his dreams, this infamous actor might have never gotten his shot if it wasn’t for his plumbing apprenticeship that helped support him during his time of transition.
