Electrician Apprenticeships & Wages

Aug 24, in Hints & Tips

If you are just starting out as an apprentice electrician there are many things that you should be considering.  One consideration is the money that you are earning. Everybody needs money to survive nowadays; and you aren’t an exception. And maybe you’re worrying that it will be a couple more years before you start earning a “real” electrician’s wage. Like all apprenticeships, wages for electrical apprenticeships are based on the state industry award.

One thing you have to look forward to is once you have completed your electrical apprenticeship training and are fully qualified, you will be earning a very decent salary; after all electricians are among the highest paid trade jobs in the country. For all electrical apprenticeships wages  are paid throughout the apprenticeship program and these wages increase with each year of your apprenticeship.

Good Rates

Apprentice electricians get very good rates for their on-the-job training. In fact, they can have an hourly rate of as much as one-third of an accomplished electrician’s hourly salary. And again, these apprenticeships wages increase with each year of the apprentice training.

Employer Attention

If you apprentice for a reliable employer, you will be able to have a continuous flow of work opportunities with changing work environments. Your employer will also help you with your tools, equipment and uniform; so you never have to worry about coughing up money for all these things.

Exemplary Performance

Sure you are just starting out on your new career, but that doesn’t mean all your early hard work will be for nothing. Employers know a good worker when they see one. When they recognise all the effort that you are putting into your duties, they can easily increase your hourly wage and/or offer you a paid position at the completion of your apprenticeship.

Naturally, apprenticeships wages aren’t as high paying as the wages you will get once you finish your apprenticeship, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to survive on apprentice wages. Remember- university students don’t get paid to study. With a little bit of wise money management on your part, you will be able to make do with what you have at the moment, until the time you become a full-fledged electrician.
