Structured mechanic apprenticeships provide you with both classroom and hands on experience. With structured apprenticeships, you will learn important information in a teacher-student atmosphere. You can get a better understanding of mechanic terms, tools, safety, and other useful information applied to your job. Along with what you obtain in the classroom, having a hands on experience will help you apply your skills in the working world targeted for your job.

Unstructured mechanic apprenticeships are typically very hands on only. Usually you are trained by one person who has been working as a qualified mechanic for many years. It’s a very personal type of apprenticeship as you are trained in a smaller business, and just with one professional mechanic. You get undivided attention and work at a pace that is best for you. This type of apprenticeship is beneficial for those who are more of a visual learner. However, because it is unstructured, the apprenticeship may last for more than 4 years. If you decide to choose this type of apprenticeship, you might not have all the information or skills needed because it is unstructured.
