Collaborative Studying

Mar 30, in Hints & Tips

Studying can often be seen as a bit of a drag. While at times it’s necessary to study solo style, sometimes even just the thought of sitting alone in a room with your books and a blank notepad can turn you off studying. By making studying a little more social you can help increase your focus, attention and motivation when it comes to studying. You can bring the fun back to your studying. While it’s not exactly going to be as fun as watching a movie or playing a video game, you can make studying an enjoyable experience.

First of all, as an apprenticepower apprentice or trainee you learn a lot by doing, and that is often the most fun way to learn. As a trainee/apprentice you get the chance to immediately work where you plan to work in the future. However, there is always a component of every apprenticeship or traineeship that includes studying, preparing or training. Believe it or not, this part of your apprenticeship can be really fun, especially if you study with other people.

Tips for Group Study:

  • Make notes during your training and copy them to eventually compare them and adjust when necessary
  • Schedule individual goals for the future together with your study buddies. This to keep you both motivated and keep your goals in sight. Obtaining feedback on your goals from your peers will also help give you some unique insights into which goals are realistic and achievable.
  • Discuss points of views to make sure there won’t be misunderstandings and see if you have the same perspective.
  • Learn from each other and offer help when possible.

All this studying together can be really useful for your apprenticeship but be aware of the fact that you are there to increase wisdom and not only to have fun. This means that you cannot allow yourself to become distracted by your study partners. Always keep in mind the bigger picture and the future goals you have set together, while studying the training to be an advantaged apprentice. If someone is losing concentration, the other needs to motivate him or her to make sure you will lift each other to a higher level. So never let others distract or influence you the wrong way.

A few more tips to make your apprenticeship training more effective:

  • Assess and evaluate other group members
  • Review your progress as a group
  • Set personal goals and discuss them with the other apprentices
  • Help each other to reach personal goals

If you follow these steps your training period during your apprenticeship will become more effective and even more fun. Remember that you always need to work together, especially when you have finished your training period and you are working in the industry.
