Certificates for Electricians

Sep 22, in Hints & Tips

Electricians are in high demand with the current Skills Shortage in Australia. To become an electrician, there are key requirement known as certificates that you must attain before you can get your electricians license. In order to complete your certificates, you need to take specialised courses as well as take part in an electrician apprenticeship.

You can take the specialised courses either through school programs offered by your High School or by attending TAFE. These courses provide the foundation you will need in order to be successful when pursuing your Certificate III. It is suggested and often required that a student take two years of classes earning an Electricians Certificate I and an Electricians Certificate II to be best prepared for your apprenticeship. The Electricians Certificate I is received upon the completion of the Electrical Pre- Vocational Course, where one learns the most basic concepts as well as first aid.

The Electrotechnology “Career Start” program earns the attendant an Electrician Certification II. This is the follow up course to the Electrical Pre- Vocation. Similarly, it prepares you for an apprenticeship or traineeship in Electrotechnology. It goes into more depth about expertise that you will need as an Electrician. The program follows guidelines outlined in the National Electrotechnology Training Package allowing you the qualifications you will need to pass examinations for the Electrical Certification II.

Once you have completed your Electricians Certificate II, you are prepared and able to enter into an Electrotechnology apprenticeship. This program allows an individual to gain both classroom and on the job training. Normally, electrical apprentices take electrician courses one day a week at the local vocation school and work with a mentor in an apprenticeship the other four days. Upon completion of the program, apprentices receive an Electrician Certificate III. From there, an individual can begin his or her career as an Electrician or further in education through an Electrician Certificate IV.

Though only an Electrician Certificate III is required for an Electrician’s License, many choose to take Electrician Certificate IV classes to further gain expertise in the field. An Electrician Certificate IV signifies that an individual has become a Special Class Electrician. Generally, an electrician will go back to school at a later time to complete this program as experience in the field is critical to understanding. This Electrician Certification allows you more opportunity as you can carry out additional jobs and services as well as earn a higher income due to your higher expertise.

Electricians Certificates are key to your success should you decide you want to enter into the Electrotechnology field. Not only will the certificates give you greater opportunities, but you will also feel comfortable with yourself, knowing that you are prepared to carry out services in the real world. Find your apprenticeship today and pave your way to a prosperous future!
