Sometimes work is hard and you need to invest a lot but in the end it will pay off. Especially when you have found the apprenticeship you really want it is important you make the most out of it to learn as much as possible. Here are some tips for your apprenticeship to leave a good impression and that will keep you motivated:
Stay in a little longer. You are allowed to leave at the exact time stipulated in your agreement with your Apprentice Host but to make a good impression it is often better to stay at work a little longer. Try to stay until the other apprentices and hosts leave, this shows that you are flexible and willing to stay longer to finish your work.
- Ask questions when things are unclear. Many people are afraid to ask questions, especially at the beginning of their apprenticeship. Asking questions can feel like you are disturbing others but it also gives the impression that you want to really learn during your apprenticeship. So don’t be afraid to ask, because it can only help you to develop your skills.
- It is important that you stay motivated during your apprenticeship. Learn as much as possible and especially in the first month stay focussed on trying to leave the right impression.
- Show your host and other apprentices that you are willing to compromise. Be flexible in tasks and try to help others. Offer help to your colleagues and even your host when the occasion provides.
- If your probation time is almost finished don’t lay back and think you’ve crossed the finish line already. Make sure you stay focussed and motivated during your whole apprenticeship.
- Keep on developing. It is important you stay focused and keep your work tempo up as an apprentice. Never think that you have found the right work tempo and you are allowed to lay back for a while. It is important to take your break when you need it but besides that try to work as hard as possible. If you feel your motivation is going down think: I am here to learn so I’d rather work hard because time flies when you are busy and it will pay off at the end.
- If you don’t manage to finish your work after one week, do not hesitate to work some extra hours. This is the apprenticeship you’ve wanted for a long time so better work for it to improve your skills. It takes some effort sometimes but in the end it is really worth it.
