As our streets become increasingly busy with vehicle traffic, the demand for qualified mechanics continues to increase. In fact, apprentice mechanics have some of the best opportunities for future employment and career growth.

Automotive apprenticeships, mechanic apprenticeships, and more specialised vehicle apprenticeships all offer great oppotunities and are a great career option for people who like working with tbeir hands and solving problems.

Apprenticeships Mechanic: Continued Growth

There is a continued and growing need for good mechanics in Australia, and the number of vehicles taking to the streets is constantly on the increase. In 2009, despite the global economic downturn, a total of 15 million vehicles were registered and authorised for use, 12 million of which were cars.

With this growth comes an increased demand for talented mechanics that are able to repair and maintain these vehicles. Once you finish your training, whether you will be working for a car repair shop or setting up one of your own, you will find yourself with a consistent amounts of work.

Apprenticeships Mechanic: Job types

There are a lot of job opportunities that are waiting for you once you successfully finish your apprentice mechanic training. You can choose to focus on general repair, maintenance and service or specialise as an automotive air conditioning fitter; a breakdown service patrol officer; a truck or motorcycle mechanic; boat engine mechanic; and an engine reconditioning mechanic and many more specialty options.

There is also a diverse range of work environments from which to choose. A lot of industries all over the country use different kinds of vehicles, you have the opportunity of working closely with another industry. Would you like to be a mechanic for a pre-owned vehicles store? How about a truck mechanic for the Australian Defense Force? Ever imagined working for the Air Force? You will have to work on the wheeled vehicles rather than the winged ones, but the job opportunities are out there for mechanics.

Being an apprentice mechanic is an exciting step towards a bright and successful career. Once you finish your apprenticeship you will have a lot of options from which to choose to make your career as a mechanic both interesting and rewarding.
