There are numerous great developments regarding apprenticeships in NSW. The New South Wales government has been primarily responsible for making NSW a premier state in growth in apprenticeship opportunities, leading the charge with new apprenticeship programs across a range of industries.
These opportunities have supported a wide range of apprentice types including school students, school leavers and those looking to make a career change. There has also been significant growth during the past years for the number of individuals aged 45 and above who are undergoing different apprenticeships in NSW. In this article we look at some new apprenticeship developments in NSW.
Apprenticeship Opportunities for Green Skills
For those who want to take care of the environment, opportunities are open for participants to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for sustainable development. This is possible through the 12-month Vocational Graduate Certificate in Education and Training for Sustainability. Many will be happy to know that there are apprenticeships in NSW that also takes into consideration the protection of the environment.
Increase in Public Sector Apprenticeship Jobs
The NSW Public Sector Apprenticeship Strategy aims to increase the number of apprenticeship jobs in the state to 4,000 by 2012. This will result in an increase in apprentices working in the government agencies or construction projects handled by the government. This strategy also aims to increase the capacity of public sectors to train and employ these apprentices.
Children’s Services Training
Workers in family day-care, pre-schools and centre based long day care services, will now get the training that they need to get them qualified. To help those in this sector get the needed training, the NSW Government has developed a plan of action to get these workers qualified. This recent development will not only benefit the workers but the children in their care.
Mentor training
Aboriginal mentors from all around New South Wales gathered for the Way Ahead program’s Cultural Awareness Training. The mentors will pool their know-how and skill from their respective industries to support indigenous apprentices and trainees handle the social and cultural difficulties that they (Aboriginal Australians) often encounter at work.
