Electrical apprenticeships benefit the community in many ways. Typically apprenticeships in electrical jobs involve installing, restoring, and maintaining electrical based devices. These devices include lighting systems, heating and air conditioning, alarm and security machines, internet, computer gadgets, fax machines, running electricity and much more.

However there are different types of electricians who cover specific areas of electrical work. The most common electrical apprenticeship involves training over 4 years.

General industries that look for electrical apprentices include working in data centres, maintenance electricians, commercial construction and vehicles of transportation.  These are the most common apprenticeships in electrical industries as electricity is at the core of their business operations. Data centres use electricians to wire and fix computers, cable lines, phones and phone lines, fax machines and other technical devices.  Maintenance electricians are depended on for fixing and maintaining all lighting fixtures including emergency lighting, indoor and outdoor lighting, light sensors, and light switches. Maintenance electricians can also install or repair smoke detectors, home and office alarms and other important electrical devices. With any electrical emergency, a maintenance electrician can be called upon immediately. Commercial construction electricians help install and repair many home devices such as heating and cooling systems, refrigerators, stoves and ovens, and much more. These three types of electricians tend to be the most common apprenticeships in electrical fields.

Apprentices in the electrical industry will discover many helpful and useful skills that will benefit their community as well as themselves. Most apprentice electricians will become familiar with technical devices and acquire the skill of installing, repairing and maintaining these devices. Apprenticeships in electrical jobs require eye hand coordination, in addition to understanding technical devices. Typically electrical apprentices will have a broad range of different types of electrical jobs so that they will fully understand what an electrician does. They will also develop safety skills that are essential for working and learning new tasks.
