1st Year Electrical Apprentice Duties
As a 1st year electrical apprentice, you will be undergoing training under the guidance of skilled, experienced and fully qualified technicians. You will undergo hours of in-school learning at a Registered Training Organisation such as TAFE, where you will be taught the theoretical background and skills required to complete your apprenticeship. You will also be required to complete even more hours of on-the-job training, where you will learn how to practically apply the knowledge learned in class. Since you will also be training by doing actual on-site work, then there are a couple of things that you should know that a 1st year electrical apprentice is expected to do.
As an apprentice you will be taught and eventually expected to be able to successfully choose, install, piece together and set up electrical equipment. You will also be required to check equipment for flaws or test, troubleshoot, repair when needed, and maintain electrical systems and electrical equipment.
You may also be required to work at different locations and on a variety of projects where you will also be asked to prep the site, prepare the tools that are going to be needed (and return them afterwards in their proper places). You will also be expected to be able to correctly read and interpret a plan.
Who is this Course for?
This course is perfect for anybody who wants to be a qualified electrician. Even if you are a school-leaver or a new entrant into the field, there are numerous opportunities if you are thinking about becoming a 1st year electrical apprentice. Most electrical apprenticeships last for three years, full time, and with each year of your apprenticeship you will be taught new skills and get experience on more complex jobs.
Once you successfully finish your electrical apprenticeship, you will then become a qualified electrician. From there, you can either work for a construction or electrical company as a qualified tradesman or even become your own boss.
