Refrigeration & air conditioning mechanics assemble, install service & repair commercial & domestic refrigeration & air conditioning systems in homes, shops, factories, office buildings & hospitals. This apprenticeship takes 4 years to complete.
Duties May Include:
- follow plans and install units
- install parts such as compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, switches & gauges, air filters, & copper lines for steam, gas, refrigerant, compressed air, fuel, oil & chilled water
- fill systems with gas or fluid, test for leaks
- service faulty industrial and household refrigerators and air conditioning units
Personal Requirements:
- interest in mathematical & technical activities
- practical & good hand coordination
- good eyesight and normal colour vision
- able to do precise & detailed work
- able to work in a team & independently
Education & Training:
- Minimum Year 12, good Maths & English
