Horticultural apprentices maintain plants and planted areas, construct horticultural features, and apply treatments to improve plant growth and control pests. This apprenticeship takes 4 years to complete.
Duties May Include:
- identify & treat pests & diseases on plants
- prepare fields, garden beds or lawn areas
- use chemicals
- read plans & construct gardens & paths
- plant flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns
- maintain gardens by fertilising, trimming and watering
- prune trees & maintain lawn & grass areas using machinery, fertilisers and chemicals
Personal Requirements:
- interested in practical and mechanical work
- able to undertake manual and heavy work
- able to work for long hours
- able to work outdoors in all sorts of weather conditions
Education & Training:
- Minimum year 10 with good results in English and Maths
